Review: Slap Dash Things Guitar Pick Earrings for Anti-Bullying

stop bullying1

One thing is certain in this day and age.  Bullying is not just child’s play, it is psychologically damaging, it is destroying the social functioning of our society, and in many cases, unfortunately it can and does lead to the death of many youth in our world.  These are important things to remember as we strive for a positive lifestyle (which is what I try to focus on in this blog) so I was both saddened and uplifted to hear the story of Jenelle Lankford in St Louis, Missouri.  Jenelle was bullied to the point she had to switch schools to get away from the emotional and physical abuse she was receiving from other kids. You can read more about the details of this part of her story here on Slap Dash Mom’s site.

The part of her story I want to tell you now is about how Jenelle has had the amazing drive and courage to stand up to bullying. Rather than take a back seat and see if someone else will do something about it, she has stood up and decided to help do her part to put an end to bullying.  Jenelle started her own business creating some amazing jewelry and donating a portion of the profits to anti bullying organizations.  I was lucky enough to be chosen as a reviewer and was sent a pair of her guitar pick earrings to review, and I’m so glad I was!  These earrings are fantastic   It’s hard to believe they were made from old retail store gift cards.  Jenelle really does have an eye for design as she hand selects which part of the gift card to punch.

I love the colors, the sparkle and the craftsmanship. Jenelle really is making jewelry that is well worth the purchase, and the donation ($1 to $2 of every sale goest to anti bullying organizations).

I couldn’t wait to try them out, but I was a bit worried my sensitive ears would start screaming at me.  Lucky for me, Jenelle’s mom talked to me beforehand and let me know they did have three different types of hooks, and it turned out the silver plated hooks were perfect for me.  My ears didn’t show the smallest sign of redness or swelling from wearing them all day!

fun with earringsI love how light weight they are, so they don’t tug at my ear lobes.  I’ve had earrings this size before that made it look like I had gaping holes drilled into my ears.  I also forgot I was wearing these, and the nice medium/short length of dangle they have let them tickle my neck just a bit.  That feeling always gives me a little confidence boost, I have no idea why, but it does, and it makes me giddy and stand up just a bit taller with a smile on my face.

Jenelle is the owner of Slap Dash Things, an etsy store where she makes and sells hand made jewelry.  To help put a stop to bullying, Jenelle donates $1 to $2 (depending on the item) to anti-bullying organizations.  Rather than let bullying get her down, she has risen above it all to turn her experience into a positive and help other kids dealing with similar situations.  To date, Jenelle has raised over $100 with her jewelry, and with the Grand Opening of her store on February 1st, it’s a good chance that number is going to soar!

With Jenelle’s jewelry, you are looking to spend around $6 per piece with $2 flat shipping. The jewelry really is cute and well put together for that price, so you know you’re getting a good deal and helping fund organizations that are all about putting a stop to bullying.

As a reminder to keep the peace, I’m leaving you here with a gratuitous duck face picture of myself wearing Jenelle’s earrings.  I don’t feel that I could properly say thank you to Jenelle for all the great work she is doing without some kind of goofy picture in her honor. Jenelle, you are an amazing person, I’m privileged to have you in my life, even if it is currently through online updates from your mom.  You have touched my life, made me smile on numerous occasions, and I will be forever proud of the work you are doing. Keep up the amazing work, beautiful, don’t let anyone bring you down!

Peace out!

I love your review of the earrings that my granddaughter, Jenelle, made. She is truly an amazing little girl. I am so proud of her for donating so something will be done about these bullies. It saddens me to think she had to go through so much hurt from bullies. Schools need to accept the responsibility to stop these kids from bullying so we dont have good kids taking their own lives. Thank you for blogging about this important issue.
